HKHS Social and Elderly Wellness
Hong Kong is rapidly transitioning into an ageing society. Enabling older adults to remain in familiar communities while preserving dignity and independence has become a shared mission across all sectors. As a pioneer and “housing laboratory”, the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) has long been committed to innovating senior housing models. From affordable public rental housing to premium residences designed for middle- to high-income older adults, we have developed a comprehensive support framework that integrates housing with elderly care.
Housing is more than shelter—it is a cornerstone of social infrastructure, underpinning “ageing in place” and “intergenerational harmony”. At HKHS, we strive to nurture tenants’ physical and mental well-being, foster a deep sense of home, and build sustainable, inclusive communities.
Our services address diverse needs:
Caring, Engaging and Smart: A dedicated team of social workers, occupational therapists and service officers provides home modifications, health management and social support for older tenants in public housing estates, promoting mutual support within the neighbourhood.
Senior Citizen Residences Scheme: Tailored for middle income individuals aged 60 or above, this scheme offers integrated accommodation combining living, recreation and healthcare services.
The Tanner Hill: A premium retirement living project designed for more affluent individuals aged 60 or above, providing quality housing and lifestyle options.
In addition, HKHS promotes public education through the Elderly Resources Centre, offering guided tours, health checks and talks to advocate the concept of “age-friendly homes” within the community. In 2022, the Age-Friendly Home Living Lab was established to drive the development of age-friendly products and enhance the quality of life for older adults.
